Cyber Security Challenge Nigeria (CYSEC NG), a subsidiary of Upgraded Era Solutions Limited into ICT and cyber security in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme, holds a hackathon competition tagged “NYSC Inter-Platoon Hackathon Competition” scheduled for 30th January , 2018 being part of the NYSC orientation activities at the Iyanya-Ipaja Camp, Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the release sent by the Director General of CYSEC NG, Mr. Victor Idonor, He stated the event is organised in a bid to orientate, identify and engage Corp members willing to build a career in information and cyber security. He also cited that various organisations and government agencies will be interested in the hackathon competition and support in the area of engaging the most talented.
Mr. Idonor also revealed that exciting cash prizes, free information security training and exam certifications from CYSEC NG’s international partner – EC-Council and opportunities will be made available to emerging winners from the hackathon competition and given a free entry to participate in the upcoming annual CYSEC NG cyber security conference and National Hackathon event.
According to the release, the competition is designed to be in 3 stages and 5 platoons are expected to scale through to the grand finale. The screening process will require the participants to think on their feet and make quick decisions as the hacking competition will be timed in a controlled environment.
The hackathon session will entail breaking into vulnerable web server and web applications, firewalls, checking for vulnerabilities, scripts and forensic analysis, web server exploitation involving steganography and cryptography.
Idonor concluded by saying that due to shortage of skills in the cyber security profession compared to the prevailing demands in the market, the Inter-Platoon hackathon competition will see lots of interests from employers in the private and public sector.
